Gliding into Extinction by ALIX O'NEIL
Gliding into Extinction
Original painting of Greater Glider, Australian native Marsupial
Daniel Smith & Windsor & Newton watercolour on Arches 300gsm cold pressed paper
42cm x 29.7cm
Unframed and signed on front
This watercolour painting depicts two Greater Gliders. A nocturnal marsupial that has recently been discovered and listed as vulnerable due to habitat loss. Dwindling Glider numbers is having an impact on the Powerful Owl as the Glider is a food source for the Owl which is now also listed as vulnerable.
Gliders do not communicate vocally so I am giving them a voice using watercolour. The paint flows and blends on the paper to create these unbelievably cute creatures with huge eyes and big fluffy ears as they cling silently to life high up in the Eucalypts.
The Greater Glider, an incredibly cute cartoon like nocturnal marsupial with huge eyes and big fluffy ears recently discovered and vulnerable. Gliders live silently clinging quietly to life high up in the Eucalypts.
I glide where there once were trees
I glide in your memory
We sit back, is that to be our destiny
I glide in your memory
Until we too become our own enemy
Extinguished to become history
